I need some girlfriend advice. Actually, I need some creative girlfriend advice. And, specifically, I need some creative girlfriend advice on knitting!
My girlfriend Angie is in bed for the next two to three months awaiting her first baby. (Madelyn, who will only be dressed in pink!) Angie is a former knitter newbie and wants to get back into it, and obviously has time right now to get started. I'm a knitting amateur. I can cast-on knit (or pearl, I have no idea) but lack knowledge of how to do anything except a scarf.
What knitting books and materials should I get for Angie? What advice do you have for her and her knitting education? (Angie - I know you're reading so hopefully you'll get some good info!)

p.s. Angie's situation is tough but she realizes how blessed she is that the baby is okay. A great set of three books is the ones by Sally Mellville - the first is called Knit, I think the second is purl, and the third color. They are 3 basic books that I get my girlfriends when they start knitting.
HOWEVER, I highly encourage you to go to www.knitpicks.com and pick up a knitting DVD or 2. That is the best gift. Knitpicks has a great selection (not a paid endorsement). DVDs usually come with a few patterns and they tend to be the most helpful in the long run. There is a series called the Art of Knitting 1 and 2 that are carried by the chains that are also good.
What a joy...a new little one...and only fine knitted things for such a princess!
